Weird But True

One of my FAVORITE parts of the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC KIDS magazine is the WEIRD BUT TRUE section. I absolutely LOVE learning new facts that are just weird, but true. It makes life seem more, I don't know, FUN! *grin*

I recently went shopping in our online teacher store from Scholastic and found a WEIRD BUT TRUE book that I could buy with my teacher points. This is my first year with book orders and points, so I figured, HEY, IT'S FREE!

Today the books arrived that I ordered, one of which was the WEIRD BUT TRUE book. I immediately started sharing random facts during down time in my classroom, and my students LOVED it! In fact, two of the students wanted to read the book at the same time! It was priceless to me!

It's been a while since a new book has gotten my students REALLY pumped about reading. I would venture to say that (since I moved to L.S.) only Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Big Nate have brought the attention that occurred today in my classroom! It was clearly the HIGHLIGHT of my day!

I recently co-lead the book fair at my school, and will eventually get to shop for new books for my classroom for the work I completed before, during, and after the fair. I plan on buying ALL the WEIRD BUT TRUE books for my classroom! Not only are they reading, but they are LEARNING at the same time. The best part is that they don't even realize they're learning while they read. Shhhhhh, don't tell them! *grin*

By the way, here's a weird but true fact for you:
Baby dolphins only sleep for seconds at a time.

*grin*
LIFE.
IS.
GREAT...with kids READING by choice!!!
